Fonte Rainha cave

A Mexican type of cave in Portugal! What a fun! This virgin spring was found by Joao and Laura Neves (SAGA cave exploration team, Portugal) 40 years ago. They did a couple of meters of penetration and after the spring was forgotten for decades. Our exploration of Ançã cave in 2024 reminded Joao about Rainha cave. Both of the caves are like “Mexican” caves. They are full of stalactites underwater and were formed before the level of the Ocean rose till the modern level. Summer 2024 we restarted the exploration.
